  • Season and Weather - Coorg

    One of the beautiful hill resorts in south India, Coorg and Kodagu District can be visited from November to April. The climate of Kodagu is cool, equable and pleasant. The district has very moist rainy monsoon climate.

    In March and April it's coffee blossom time in Coorg. Stretches of these now white flowers waft a heady fragrance and their massed magnificence is an unforgettable sight. When the blossoms turn into berries, the bushes are cropped. The cherryred fruit is then pulped, the separate coffee seeds dried and sent to the curing works.

    One of the South's best kept secret Coorg was discovered by honeymooners and trekkers. In a trekker's wake came the families who wanted to recharge their holiday and soon it became a backpackers paradise. The best thing to do at Coorg is to take a Vehicle and drive through is leisurely pace, stopping every now and then to smell the coffee scented air. Wait and watch the potent Coorg ready to spill the beans ....

    Winter lasts from January to February
    Summer from March to May
    Southwest monsoon from June to September
    Northeast monsoon from October to December.

    Rainfall

    June, July and August are the months with heavy rainfall and July is the rainiest month. The rainfall during southwest monsoon is about 80% of the annual rainfall in the Western Ghat region. The average annual rainfall during the last couple of years is 2800 mm.

    Temperature

    The mean daily minimum temperature is the least in January at about 14.2 deg C. During December to February the minimum temperature may go down to 6 deg C. Temperature begins to increase from mid February and reaches climax in April and May with mean daily maximum temperature at 28.6 deg C. With onset of southwest monsoon temperature decreases in June and weather becomes pleasant.
